"Gillespie’s’ design for the Grassmarket is based upon the firm’s multi-award winning design philosophy and its considerable understanding of historic spaces. The solution seeks to respect the historic street pattern whilst balancing this with contemporary design elements which are better suited to modern usage."   Ha Ha Ha

Actually the plans presented by Gillespie’s, after a totally bogus 'public consultation'   were so stupid,  so awful (the spoof above is no exaggeration!) and so universally reviled, that the Council god bless them, have relented on every issue and reinstated practically every element of the original Grassmarket.  Except that is there will be nowhere to park

and that there is easy access and plenty of parking available at The Gyle, Kinaird Park and Almondvale.

Here they unearth the remains of an earlier Grassmarket resident found in an area close to the old Temperance Mission building.
Here, assisted by City arboreal experts
they make the ground ready to receive
the new trees.

Trees sufficiently large enough to placate the residents are only available from Germany. Scottish trees being too short and hairy.
